Nutrition for Seniors

Nutrition services are provided to Union County senior citizens through three programs. Client income is not a consideration for an individual to qualify for these programs, however, donations are encouraged.

Home Delivered Meals

The Home Delivered Meals Program provides nutritious meals Monday through Friday for homebound senior citizens that meet the criteria for the program. To receive this service, prospective clients must allow staff to conduct a home-visit every 6 months. Clients may be placed on a waiting list if an existing route or volunteer is not available at the time the application is submitted.

Supplemental Nutrition

This program provides supplemental meals (Ensure Plus) 24 days per month for critically ill senior citizens who are 60 years of age or older. Physician authorization is required to participate in this service. Based upon demand, clients may be placed on a waiting list until space becomes available. Priority for service will be based upon the severity of the illnesses being considered.

Senior Dining Locations

The group dining program is available for any senior citizen 60 years or older. Lunchtime meals are provided Monday through Friday at the following sites and meal times vary by site. Meal reservations are requested one day in advance of attendance. Program activities are provided daily. For reservations, call 704-283-3712. View the map on the right for Senior Dining Locations.

About Senior nutrition services

The elderly nutrition services are an extension of the adult services program. Many times, when faced with financial difficulty, mobility constraints or transportation challenges, senior citizens struggle with affording, purchasing or preparing nutritious food. Knowing how frequently this can occur, Union County focuses on providing nutritional support both for senior citizens who are home-bound and those that would benefit from a social dining experience.
